We flew into Calgary and
collected our hire truck. We then drove up Highway 1 to Banff. We
spent the first week at the Douglas
Firs Resort self-catering huts. Tim's Mum Gene and
his Auntie June were with us for the 2 weeks. Phil and Fiona came
up to Banff to ski and party with us there. We skied at Sunshine
and a day at Lake
Louise. Norman joined us for the second weeks
skiing. Well all i can say is that it was fantastic. Best skiing i
have ever had.
We went to Radium Hot
Springs, Lake Louise, Lake Minnewanka, Windermere, and even took a
wrong turn and ended up in BC..... We went up the Gondola in
Banff, ate at Bumpers Beef House (except Timothy that is being a
vegetarian and all, he went to bed early with a sore bum
(snowboarding) and a sandwich!) and all the Canadian Rocky
Mountain Tourist stuff.
After the Wedding in Canmore
we went Dog-Sledge Riding with Snowy Owl Tours. Now that was
absolutely great and we only had time for a taster ride so on our
next visit i think we will have to take the full day tour.
Everyone came even a 6 month pregnant Emily and Tim's Mum and
Aunt. everyone loved it! Canmore was a great town and defiantly
want to visit there again. Less touristy than Banff and a nice
atmosphere. Great beer at the Grizzly
Paw Microbrewery, great burgers too - even fish
ones for the veggies in our group.
Back to Banff for more
Skiing. The Weather was a bit colder the second week, -12 degrees
at the top of the ski hill at Sunshine. Now apparently that was
warm..... it was not as bad as you think it is going to be. It is
so dry that it felt colder at -1 in London on our return. Top tip
for skiing in the Canadian Rocky Mountains - TAKE TONS OF
MOISTURISER AND LIP BALM. We skied Lake Louise too which had good
runs but the atmosphere was not as nice as Sunshine. 10/10 for
Sunshine. Fantastic Snow, great country, super people. |
